Which oil is best for skin according to Ayurveda?
To know which oil is going to work the best for you, you need to know your skin type i.e. the doshas and recognize what affects your skin the most. Here is a simple and easy way to do that.
Dry Skin: Vata Dosha
If you have dry flaky skin that usually gets worse with extreme weather changes or wind then your skin type is Vata as per Ayurveda.
Oily Skin: Kapha Dosha
If oily is how you’ll describe your skin type then you have Kapha skin. The main concern of this skin type is large pores and excess oil on using most products.
Sensitive Skin: Pitta Dosha
If you have sensitive skin that easily gets irritated with exposure or sun or emotional imbalances then the chances are you have Pitta skin. You often face challenges like acne, rosacea, moles or rashes.
Best Ayurvedic Face Oil
You can make your own Ayurvedic Face Oil using the following oils in given proportions:
- ½ ounce Jojoba oil
- ½ ounce Almond Oa il
- 4 drops khus or geranium essential oil
- 6 drops of vitamin oil
- 12 drops of rose otto
All you need to do is mix these oils together and transfer it into a glass bottle for easy application. Now simply wash your face with water and apply a few drops (2-4 drops) of this oil to your face followed by a gentle massage. This helps in balancing the three doshas in your body and acts as a daily moisturizer.
Ayurvedic face oil for oily skin
Your skin is more prone to clogging and getting blackheads so take sure you clean your skin with ½ teaspoon of honey mixed with ½ teaspoon of lemon. This will gently clean and exfoliate your skin.
All you need to do now is mix ½ teaspoon Sesame oil with 1 drop Lemongrass essential oil and dilute it with 3-4 drops of water. Apply this mixture on your entire skin and neck and leave it on.
Ayurvedic face oil for dry skin
Take 1 teaspoon Almond oil and mix it with 1-2 drops of Lavender or Chamomile essential oil. Now add 5-6 drops of water to the mixture and massage it on your face and neck. You can prepare this mixture and store it for a week but prefer making a fresh batch everyday. You don’t need to wash off the oil as it acts as a moisturizer and nourishes your skin giving a nice glow.
What is the best homemade face oil Recipe?
Take 1 teaspoon Jojoba oil and mix it with 1-2 drops of Geranium essential oil. Gently massage this oil on your face and neck for a few minutes and leave it on. This is especially useful if you have Pitta or sensitive skin.

Does Kumkumadi oil really work on the face?
Kumkumadi oil has several benefits like skin brightening, reducing pigmentation and wrinkles, reducing acne, etc.
Kumkumadi oil is made using several herbs and oils. You can make this oil at home by following these steps:
Start with making a Saffron infusion by adding a 1 gram of saffron threads to one tablespoon of hot milk. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes until the milk tuns golden.
Make a fine powder using equal parts of Sandalwood, Manjistha, Turmeric and Vetiver. Now mix water few spoons of water in the powder to make a smooth paste.
Mix almond oil and sesame oil in a separate bowl (preferably heat resistant). Keep this boil over a pan filled with water creating a double boiler. Make sure you don’t overheat the oils.
Once the oils are warm, add the paste to the bowl filled with oils. Now add the saffron milk to this mixture. Let it heat for 20-30 minutes on low lame and remember to stir it in between.
Take the oil off heat and strain it using a strainer or cheesecloth once it cools down. Make sure all the solid particles are removed and your Kumkumadi oil is ready to use. Try storing it in a dark glass bottle to keep its qualities intact.
You can use this Ayurvedic Face Oil once a day preferably at night on a clean, dry face. Massage for a few minutes and repeat every night for faster results.
