What are Gastric Problems?
Our stomach is responsible for digestion and contains various gastric acid that helps in this process. Sometimes we consume foods and drinks that are difficult to digest and leads to gastric problems. However, it is not the sole reason for this uncomfortable situation. Excess production of gas in the body or accumulation of air in digestive system are some of the other factors.

Ayurvedic Remedy for Gas
Fennel Seeds (Saunf)
Chew half teaspoon Fennel seeds after having any meal. You can also add these in your food for flavour. They act as a natural antacid and helps enhance digestion, relieving any discomfort caused by it.
Curd
You can take plain, organic curd along with your meals or as is to improve digestion and any symptoms. It is a simple and effective way of getting rid of these gastric problems.
Ginger
Ginger is traditionally added in food to relieve cramps, nausea and enhancing digestion. It helps soothe stomach and gets rid of bloating and gastritis. You can also prepare ginger tea and consume it once a day.
Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
Cumin seeds are an effective way of improving digestion. You can simply add Jeera while cooking meals or prepare cumin tea by adding few seeds in hot water and drink it post meal.
Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
You can take few ajwain seeds directly or boil these seeds with a glass of water, strain the mixture and drink it for quick relief. Ajwain is a common herb used in Ayurveda to alleviate gas and flatulence.
Asafoetida (Hing)
Take a glass of warm water and add half tablespoon of ghee along with a pinch of Hing. Drink this mixture before going to bed at night. You can also add a pinch of Hing in water and drink it first thing in the morning. It contains antispasmodic properties that reduces gas formation and relives stomach discomfort.
Triphala
Triphala is a blend of three fruits i.e. Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki. It is cherished in Ayurveda for its exceptional properties. You can take one teaspoon of Triphala powder in warm water before bed to promote healthy digestion and detoxification.
Lifestyle changes to be made
- Opt for cooling, easy to digest foods like Moong dal, Khichdi, Cooked vegetables, etc.
- Avoid drinking too much fluids before or after having any meal. These fluids tend to dilute the acids present in the stomach that are required for digestion.
- Stay away from oily, spicy food that aggravates pitta dosha as much as possible. If you’re eating such foods then balance it out with eating light, easy to digest foods as your next meal.
- Walk for a few minutes after eating. Laying down immediately after obstructs the downward flow of enzymes and food.
- Limit eating food that produces too much gas like beans, cabbage, eggs, coffee, fish, radish, figs, dates, etc.
